TCT for Surgeons Course Will Highlight Hybrid Surgical and Interventional Techniques
“Emerging Directions for the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon,” to be co-sponsored by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, will be held September 21-25, 2010, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, DC. TCT for Surgeons, now in its 4th year, is an in-depth course focusing on novel and advanced surgical techniques for surgeons interested in the most contemporary surgical techniques and catheter-based approaches for patients with cardiovascular disease. The course is co-sponsored by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF), an independent, academically focused nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the survival and quality of life for people with cardiovascular disease through research and education. Since its inception in 1991, CRF has played a major role in realizing dramatic improvements in the lives of countless numbers of patients by establishing the safe use of new technologies and therapies in the subspecialty of interventional cardiology and endovascular medicine. One of the course highlights will be an overview of “hybrid coronary therapy,” which involves a combination of traditional surgery along with the placement of coronary stents in patients with coronary artery disease.
